Canned Wine is Here to Stay.

WineinCan

With warm spring weather right around the corner, echos of morning hikes, canoe trips, tents by the campfire, 18 holes of golf, front porch swinging and picnic table dinner parties are starting to insert themselves into our everyday thoughts.

While the days get longer our patience gets shorter, yearning for the time where we can disconnect and relax, ready to enjoy a calming sunset. Being on-the-go, soaking up the season does not necessarily mean you have a leave good wine behind.

According to industry statistics, canned wine is no longer a millennial fad -it is now a $45 million business. While canned wine is still a tiny portion of the wider industry, it is one of the fastest growing categories.

These cans can be brought to places that glass based bottles cannot. The beach, the park, your lawnmower and campsites. “Compared with previous generations, today’s young adults are more likely to drink wine than beer”, Ray Isle, executive wine editor at Food & Wine, said in an interview with CNBC. “However, they don’t have as much disposable income, making more affordable wines in cans more appealing.”

On average, a 750-mL (the standard) bottle of wine will cost between $11 and $25. Wine in a can will set the drinker back about about $4 to $7 for a 375-mL can; making these cans equivalent of a half of a bottle of wine at around 30% less in cost.

Canned wine holds much appeal as it is easy to transport, easy to chill, and easy to open.
